Wrong. I even took a picture last year, but never posted the recipe. So here it is, better late than never. Thanks for the reminder, sistuh. You've given me a good idea of what to do with the rest of my afternoon.
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread
Estimated Cost: $4.00 for threestandard loaves, or 8 mini loaves
Notes: You can swap out the nuts for an equal amount of extra chocolate chips.
1 (15 ounce) can solid pack pumpkin
1 cup vegetable oil
3 cups sugar
2/3 cup water
4 eggs
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 and 1/2 cups flour
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chocolate chips tossed with 2 tablespoons flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 3 standard loaf pans. In a large bowl, combine pumpkin, oil, sugar, water and eggs, mixing well. Add in cinnamon, soda and salt. Very gently, stir in flour until just combined. Stir in walnuts and chocolate chips. Separate into 3 separate loaf pans. Bake for one hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool on a rack for ten minutes before removing from pan.

Pumpkin chocolate chip bread is one of my favorite things to bake this time of year. I always have a couple loaves in the freezer for a last minute contribution to a potluck meal!
OMG, sounds delish!
One question though....are those three regular sized loaf pans or the mini ones? They look kinda small in the pictures. Delicious, but small :)
Anonymous-It makes three large loaves or about 8 mini loaves. The picture is actually two years old, so they could be minis in the pic-can't remember!
I love recipes that make multiple loaves ... but first I need to make pumpkin puree! The benefits of working at a pumpkin farm -- free leftover pumpkins!
Tracy-Wow! I never thought about all of those leftover pumpkins. Could you write a children's after halloween story about that? I'd buy it!
Mmmmm.... I think I need to try this one! :) It looks delicious. Do you think I could make this dinner tonight? Warm pumpkin bread on a cold night? Sounds perfect.
Katie-I'm thinking the same thing. Dinner is overrated!
thanks for answering! going to make this tomorrow afternoon :)
Fresh out of the oven and one loaf already gone. Our family loves this recipe. Thanks for coming to my rescue...again.
Prudelicious, I felt inspired to write to you this morning. There's something about November 13th that struck me. About 28 years ago my girlfriend's little sister opened the door the first time I ever went over. She was 12 but looked 25. As she ran into the kitchen, without saying a word, she and her sisters were making Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread. What are the odds? If I knew where she was today, I would wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
In case you were wondering, it never worked out between me and her sister.
Have a great day & can't wait to try your recipe...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR PRUDY
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND
WHO IS GOING TO BAKE THE CAKE? OR IS IT BROWNIES THIS YEAR? OR TEXAS SHEET CAKE?
Dear Prudy,
Is that guy still coming around? A few times after reading your blog I wondered if that was him.
He was always so persistent and it seems he still is.
I saw that he left you 8 comments yesterday. I remember he was really, really funny but he just drove me crazy. Thank gosh it didn't work out with him.
I think he liked you better than me anyway!
My youngest lives on pumpkin muffins. I replace the oil with applesauce (cinnamon flavored motts). He will love the addition of chocolate.
This looks delicious, especially because of the pumpkin/chocolate combination. I've been trying a lot of pumpkin recipes myself lately.
we love this stuff (without the nuts). i have got to figure out a gluten free version, as this is one of henry's all-time favorite foods.
happy happy birthday to you, miss prudy. may you have a year full of pumpkin chocolate yumminess!
My favorite too...in bread or cookies! ;D
Prudy...Happy BIG birthday to you! Can't wait to make this bread tomorrow with my girls!!! Wish we were sharing it together!
Back to let you know...I made these yesterday and they are delicious!! My family has already eaten one, and my coworkers at the other one. Now I guess we'll have to fight over the last one!
Awesome recipe, thank you so much!
Interesting combo.
Yeah, I made these too. And my neighbor brought over a loaf of, you guessed it, pumkin chocolate chip bread. I had to laugh. In a blind taste test, I liked your recipe just a bit better. It's more moist. I had made some into muffins, and they were great, I took them to a friend on bedrest. But, besides that, we pretty much gorged on pumkin bread this weekend. Eek!
