I'm scooping up our frozen ambrosia for the Sugar High Friday Event, focusing on berry desserts.
Raspberry Sorbet
Estimated Cost: $5.00
Notes: Make these with fresh berries only when you can find them on sale. Otherwise, stick with frozen.
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
3 cups raspberries, fresh or frozen, thawed
1 teaspoon lime zest
1 tablespoon lime juice
In a small saucepan, bring water and sugar to a simmer over medium heat. When sugar is completely dissolved, remove from heat and cool. Meanwhile, blend berries in the bowl of a food processor or blender until smooth. Press through a strainer to remove seeds. Combine syrup, berries, lime zest and juice in the bowl of an ice cream maker. Process according to manufacturer's direction.

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup heavy cream
3 cups milk (low fat is fine)
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup slightly crushed raspberries, fresh or frozen
In the bowl of the ice cream maker, combine condensed milk, cream, milk, and vanilla. Process according to manufacturer's directions. Stir in raspberries when ice cream is almost set.

I can't wait to try these. I have been on a little of a homemade ice cream kick since I realized how easy it is. Now, I just have to wait for the fresh raspberries- maybe this weekend at the farmers market. We bought some yesterday, but none of them made it home. We ate them all when we were walking around! Great choice by the little one!
You've got be hooked on finding an ice cream maker! I thought I could find one at Home Goods yesterday but they don't sell them. I will be buying one in the next few days. Any recommendations?
Could I just pay you to make me some? They do look wonderful together. I've never made homemade ice cream myself. My mom made it as we were growing up, but I never wanted to make it myself, until I look at yours.
How pretty those look together in that blue dish. It reminds me of those 50/50 popscicles. As usual, can't wait to try this one!
Okay,
I'm going to the Grocery after church and I'm making this... today.

I have got to get an ice cream maker. That ice cream (and ALL of your ice creams!) look so so good! I can just taste the rasberries!

I wish I could recommend an ice cream maker. The truth is, I have an "el cheapo" ice cream maker from Target. I've had it for about three years and it's going strong. They have those fab ones from William Sonoma that don't even require ice, but they cost about $100. Good luck!
i can't believe all the wonderful things you share! thanks for taking the time to share delicous food that is cheap!! yay! i hate spending so much money on one meal.
Who could possibly notice the kitchen when that little sweetie's face is front and center? :) Thank you Prudy and sweet little one for a moist mouth-watering combination of cool treats.
Oops. That was supposed to be "most" mouth-watering. :)
One of the best inventions was the ice cream maker! lol. Both of these recipes look delicious!
I really need to get myself an ice cream maker!
That tears it! I am bringing my ice cream maker insert to work with me today and popping it into their freezer! (there's no room in the one here at home unfortunately!) Looking forward big time to the pizza!
Raspberry sorbet was the first thing I made in my new ice cream maker. It was fantastic - but I like your recipe with the lime.
Great mother and daughter team! I saw a few time ago an ice-cream maker with 3 churners at the same time. Can you imagine that? You could even have one new flavour for your son! Raspberry and vanilla is good stuff, and you know what's good also? Vanilla ice-cream with raspberry sorbet swirl, yummmmm!
You are an awesome Mom. I know how hard it is to let your child do their thing in your kitchen. I know you are so glad that you compromised. Your ice cream and sorbet look heavenly and I'm think about dusting off our ice cream maker and trying this next weekend.
Yum Yum! I wish I could get my boys to help in the kitchen!

Yum Prudy,
Funny, I got a William S. gift card from the ladies at work and was thinking, I'd probably splurge on an ice cream maker. I think your treats would be first on my list!
Holy moly! Your ice cream and sorbet look beautiful! You are so creative!
I must try this. My son loves raspberry sorbet and yours looks so good :)
must. have. raspberry. ice. cream.
I am so excited to try these recipes. We got the professional Cuisinart ice cream machine for our wedding and we are in love!! My husband's favorite flavor is lime too...he will love these! thanks!
both look great and your daughter is adorable!
Made it tonight (the ice cream, not sorbet). Excellent! What a versatile vanilla!
This is perfect for this time of year! So cool and refreshing. Looks delicious.
