Start Spreadin' the News....

Oh, you. You really did it.
I just got an email informing me that I am the People's Choice winner for the voting phase of the French's Cook-Off. I'll be attending the cook-off in New York city sometime in February. You really did it! I'm over the moon and I wish you could come with me. (To the moon and to New York.) It sounds glib to say I couldn't have done it without you. But truly, I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to all of you.
Be back later today with French Sable Cookies....

P.S. I saw a high school production of A White Christmas Musical last night and walked out of the theatre to a fresh snow storm. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend White Christmas. I can't promise snow, but the musical alone is magical enough.

  1. Prudy, you did it! You're on your way!
I am sure you're going to win.
    I don't see how you can't.

I love hearing about all the plays and cultural events you get to see.
I've never even seen the movie White Christmas.
How terrible is that? I don't know why, I just have never sat down to watch it. Probably because I don't own it.
I can't believe you came out of the play to snow!
How lucky. I bet Holly is so excited.

When are you going to be in NYC? Can I pop up and say hi? Be part of your entourage? Be your taste tester? Hold up signs that say "Vote Purdy! She's Pennywise!"? Just let me know and I will start making posters!

  13. Woohoooo! You're cheery cherry chicken looked really good -- I have a couple of non-mustard eaters; would they notice the mustard in the recipe, if you know what I mean?

Congratulations! Let us know how the cook-off goes!

  14. Sorry -- YOUR cheery cherry chicken looked good. Mrs. Sumpter (my high school English teacher) would horse-whip me and everyone that has stopped caring about Yours and Theirs.

I don't think they'd notice at all. It really balances out with the sweet cherry preserves. Thanks for the congrats.

  16. Aunt Spicy: Please come! I would love to see you in NYC. I want to talk Michelle in to coming with me, then we can call up HOlly and Kimmmarie and have that reunion we've always been wishing for. Are you coming for Christmas? Hope so.

White Christmas has always been one of my favorite Christmas movies.

  18. Hey Erin,

First of all, congratulations on winning people's choice!! That is very exciting.

Secondly, I just had to comment and tell you that I have been trying your recipes with my preschool class! This is good and bad. The good part is that they really enjoyed making the apple pie and it was a great recipe for a large group of children.

Now the bad part...yesterday we attempted to make the caramel popcorn. The recipe says to let the corn syrup and brown sugar boil for 3-4 minutes, right? Well, as soon as it started boiling I had one of my little ones start the "pee pee dance" and say she had to go. I thought, I have four minutes, I will just run her over to the class, leave her with the other teacher, and run back...BAD PLAN. Before I got back, I hear the smoke alarm going off and the whole school had to evacuate!! I'm talking 100+ children! Anyway, I felt ridiculous and definitely learned a lesson there, but I had to share it with you.

OH, no!!!! I'm so sorry, but I'm also laughing too. That's always the worry when you cook with kids, isn't it??? Once Heidi made taffy with her third graders and she left it to warm on the radiator. The glass dish broke all over the floor and taffy hardened, leaving shards of glass stuck to the ground in the candy. Imagine trying to clean that up with no third graders getting hurt? HOpefully no one was hurt by your caramel popcorn misadventures. Maybe I should include a warning with my recipe!
