Katherine Hepburn Brownies

Maybe the reason that I love actresses of yesteryears so much is that I can tell them apart. Their looks were distinctive. They didn't have plastic surgery to fix their noses, their wrinkles, their lips. They didn't bleach their teeth, and while some of them certainly bleached their hair, they didn't all do it, and certainly not the same shade of platinum blond. They look like they even ate dinner once in a while, and didn't have liposuction to have it all sucked away. And they were gorgeous. Real human women-with flaws and all-are so much more beautiful then the false and brittle images that Hollywood promotes these days. Like Katherine Hepburn, for example. She's spectacular in Bringing Up Baby, divine in Philadelphia Story. She was a real woman; beautiful, talented, and imperfect. And Hepburn even had her own brownie recipe. A gooey, delicious, fudgy, deeply chocolaty brownie recipe. On second thought, maybe she was perfect after all.
Click here for the recipe that we baked as part of our online baking group, Tuesdays with Dorie. They'll cost you about $2.00 to bake on your own, and they're guaranteed to make you as gorgeous as Katherine Hepburn. Honest.)

If these will make me look like Audrey, I'm in! Heck, I would've been in anyway :)

I whole heartedly agree with you about the actresses of old.

I can look like Katherine Hepburn by eating brownies? I don't even like chocolate desserts, but I'd be willing to give it a go!

Those look divine. I can almost taste them through my screen. Brownies are my weakness, I could eat the whole pan all by myself!

Whew, I'm SO glad these brownies will make me beautiful--I made them four times this past week! Yay! I love them and made them four different ways. They are a great, easy brownie.
Yours look scrumptious with the nuts (and ice cream) on top!

Oh, these brownies are the BEST -- I've made them for years. And my daughter's name is Katharine. I wanted her to be strong, independent, her own woman -- it worked!

Yup, they all seem to look alike. I've had it wrong all these years, I should have been eating brownies instead of depriving myself.

I didn't read the recipe yesterday -- and it's somewhat different from the one I have. The one I have came from Ladie's Home Journal, 30+ years ago, and was included in an interview with Katharine Hepburn. These are the brownies she made. There's no coffee, cinnamon or cocoa powder in the recipe I have and they bake (still at 325°) for 40 minutes.

I think the instructions for the recipe are given in Katharine's own words. It doesn't sound like the language of a professional writing a recipe.

I'm sure this recipe is good, but I don't think I'd vary from the "original."

My apologies for yet another comment, but the recipe I have uses two squares of unsweetened chocolate, which I think is 2 ounces -- not 4. There's quite a difference between the recipe I have and Dorie's. I haven't made these in quite some time, but I can't imagine something even more "chocolatey".

Yes, Stars of the SILVER screen. Cannot beat them. Ever!!!

Your brownies look divine. With the ice cream and chocolate and.... I am sure if KH ate enough of these she would not be as skinny as she was.

wosnes: I left out the cinnamon and coffee too. I should have written that. I've made her real recipe before and I think that one is a little bit better. Dorie took a few liberties with this one, but it did came out yummy. You're smart to stick to the original.

mmmm, yum. You've got me craving brownies at 9:30 in the morning! (Okay, so truth is that's not all that unusual for me, haha) they look delish!

I love Katharine. Bringing Up Baby and Philadelphia Story are two favorites. And I love what you said about Katharine being a real woman and a beauty. So true. And you're real brownies look like beauties too!

I can't wait for the tex mex vegetable soup - it sounds perfect for me.

Thanks for stopping by to see us today! We had so much fun. It was so fun to have company. My favorite part was when I said, "They're bored" and you said "I'm sure they are." I didn't get to tease you and laugh about the fact that I said my kids were bored and you didn't even politely disagree! Haha! =) I guess there's no hiding it.

totally agree with you regarding actresses...wish we could see a little retro action in todays films as far as that goes...my friend and i were just talking about marilyn monroe and how "soft" and lovely she looked, esp. in comparison to todays beauty idols.

Help! I looked all over the site that your recipe link sent me to and couldn't find the recipe at all!
And I. must. make. these! LOL They look too scrumptious and knowing that Katherine Hepburn made them is even more appealing. Please let me know if I'm doing something wrong in the search...

There are many Cartier out there that are just plain big. For the average man, these huge Cartier Watches are too big, and can actually make his wrist and hand look smaller, or even effeminate. The Replica Cartier series were the "right" size; big enough, but not clunky and huge. When it’s about luxury Replica Cartier Watches .
