Thanksgiving was gloriously fattening, a buttery omen for the coming season. Despite only being home for a few days from our European sojourn, my mom (who lives across the street) and I played hostess to 30 holiday guests. Since they were all blood relatives, they weren't expecting breakfast in bed or chocolates on the pillows, but since they were all blood relatives we felt like giving them breakfast in bed and chocolates on the pillow. Except we sort of fizzled out by Saturday and someone had to run to Del Taco for midnight quesadillas with medium taco sauce. If it weren't for my Korean sister in law Sung Jin, we might have actually even shed a few extra ounces by Sunday, but since she is a kitchen prize fighter, we just kept on eating every delicious morsel that she would dish out. What's a food loving girl to do? And speaking of food, I always have grand plans for leftovers before they exist, but little interest in them when they live in giant plastic bags on my refrigerator shelves. Meh. I'd rather make a Christmas cookie, like this lovely little Tuesdays with Dorie morsel. It's really supposed to be a linzer sandwich cookie, but since I'm still catching up on homeschool, school board, Christmas decorations, unpacking, blog reading,-oh and someday I'll get back to commenting again, Christmas shopping, etc, I couldn't be bothered with rolling and cookie-cutting out dough. Give me a few days, friends, just a few more precious days. Instead, I shaped the pecan-sprinkled dough (with some tangerine zest thrown in for good measure) into little round mounds with thumbprint middles, and filled them with blackberry jam. Yowza. With a wee cup of cranberry tea, they really hit the spot. You know that spot that the Thanksgiving leftovers and midnight quesadilla missed. Figures you get back from your fabulous, whirlwind trip and whip up an amazing Thanksgiving feast for 30. I might have been tempted to have a Del Taco Thanksgiving in your shoes. I am so happy that you are back!!
