Top 10 Hits for Late Summer

The calendar boldly asserts that summer will officially be ending next week. Mother Nature, at least here in the Southwest, is stubbornly ignoring this suggestion, as temperatures here continue to hover around the 90s. No matter. There's plenty of great food to squeeze in before it's time to heft around sugar pumpkins and bottles of maple syrup. And speaking of great food, here are my top 10 suggestions for late summer meals and treats. Stay tuned all week, as I finish up with some more hot season favorites, plus a sneaky give-away one day.
Top 10
Strawberry White Chocolate Ice Cream Don't worry if you don't have an ice cream maker; these yummy scoops were made in a bowl in the freezer.
Salsa Verde Turkey Burger -There's a reason this burger won me a guest appearance on the Rachael Ray show. It's that good.
Corn and Black Bean Salad-Make this one when you've got leftover corn on the cob. Whip up enough for dinners and lunch the next day.Classic Cheeseburgers on Homemade Buns-Buttery and light, these buns will send your burger through the roof.Summer Squash Gratin Be sure you've got a multi-grain baguette to sop up all the tomato and garlic and parmesan juices.August Corn Chowder and Whole Wheat Rolls-If you can't sqeeze this one in this week, don't worry. They'll both be delicious all fall long.
Asian Chicken, Avocado and Orange Salad-Salad for dinner is a must in the summer, especially this Asian inspired salad with crunch wontons and a zingy dressing.
Raspberry Vanilla Ice Cream and Raspberry Sorbet-Make one or the other or both for a burst of fresh raspberry flavor.
Roasted Garlic, Tomato and Basil Flatbread-Think of a flabread coated with a roasted garlic spread and fresh tomatoes, basil, and Italian cheeses.Super Fast Summer Vegetable Fajitas- Take advantage of all the colorful lovely fall produce to create a quick and delicious southwestern dinner.

  1. Don't know which one would be my favorite, could be the squash or maybe the corn chowder, which I've yet to make :(
I've been a little busy lately. I'll get to crackin soon enough!

Thank you for having Q. M. answer my questions.

  2. What a great top ten! I, too, hate to think that summer is coming to an end. The picture of the Black Bean and Corn Salad made me want to eat it...well I'm off to the kitchen! =)

  3. Alright. It's settled! I'm first in line to buy your cookbook....when's it being published :P!!! (If you already have one, please send me the name!)

I am always so inspired when I read your posts. I can tell everything on your blog is made with a lot of passion and love!

I'm so glad the Summer's almost over :D, by the way! I can't wait for Fall!

  4. The only problem here is I don't know which recipe I want to make first. Because they all look wonderfully delicious, and I know that they will be, so hmmmm, where does a girl start? Maybe, we could have a buffet with all these items? I will help prepare!

  5. Oh how I wish I had seen this post yesterday! We went to a berry patch and picked raspberries and then came home and used them all up on jam! (That's actually a very good prudence pennywise tip - berries are cheaper if you go and pick your own!) Now who can eat jam after seeing that delicious raspberry ice cream? Oh well. All of these recipes look delicious and I can't wait to try the ones that I missed.

I'm going to do the veggie fajitas tonight, and the August Corn chowder some time this week. Our harvest has been so late this year. Up north where I live our corn is just barely coming on.

  35. What I great idea. I love your top 10 list! These are all jostling for position in my "to make" list. Rachel Ray?? Did you get video of your TV appearance?? I'd love to see it if it's out there somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  36. They all look so good. The ice cream is calling my name but so is the corn chowder, hamburger and sqaush gratin. I am so hungry now!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Aunt Prudy! : ) Those all look amazing! I really want to try to make the burger, the ice cream, and flatbread. I did TRY to make the Cajon grilled Chicken and veggies-I know they are pretty "fool proof," but I must be some kinda' fool because I think I used too much oil. My delicious brown sugar kinda' melted off onto my cookie sheet! I LOVED the potential taste it had though! : ) I will let you know how my next "Prudy Dish" turns put! Thanks

  38. I have made the zuchini dish about seven times now. It is so delicious and easy. It is a my new weekly addition to baked potato night (I confess it is a sad regular at our house). Thanks for all the inspiration.
The burger is also sooo good and the black bean/corn salad is an all time favorite. I can't wait to try the others soon.
    THANK YOU!
May Hugs and Kisses fall down upon you from the kitchen gods. :)
