Top 10 Hits for Late Summer

The calendar boldly asserts that summer will officially be ending next week. Mother Nature, at least here in the Southwest, is stubbornly ignoring this suggestion, as temperatures here continue to hover around the 90s. No matter. There's plenty of great food to squeeze in before it's time to heft around sugar pumpkins and bottles of maple syrup. And speaking of great food, here are my top 10 suggestions for late summer meals and treats. Stay tuned all week, as I finish up with some more hot season favorites, plus a sneaky give-away one day.
Top 10
Strawberry White Chocolate Ice Cream Don't worry if you don't have an ice cream maker; these yummy scoops were made in a bowl in the freezer.

Salsa Verde Turkey Burger -There's a reason this burger won me a guest appearance on the Rachael Ray show. It's that good.
Corn and Black Bean Salad-Make this one when you've got leftover corn on the cob. Whip up enough for dinners and lunch the next day.Classic Cheeseburgers on Homemade Buns-Buttery and light, these buns will send your burger through the roof.Summer Squash Gratin Be sure you've got a multi-grain baguette to sop up all the tomato and garlic and parmesan juices.August Corn Chowder and Whole Wheat Rolls-If you can't sqeeze this one in this week, don't worry. They'll both be delicious all fall long.
Asian Chicken, Avocado and Orange Salad-Salad for dinner is a must in the summer, especially this Asian inspired salad with crunch wontons and a zingy dressing.
Raspberry Vanilla Ice Cream and Raspberry Sorbet-Make one or the other or both for a burst of fresh raspberry flavor.
Roasted Garlic, Tomato and Basil Flatbread-Think of a flabread coated with a roasted garlic spread and fresh tomatoes, basil, and Italian cheeses.Super Fast Summer Vegetable Fajitas- Take advantage of all the colorful lovely fall produce to create a quick and delicious southwestern dinner.

Don't know which one would be my favorite, could be the squash or maybe the corn chowder, which I've yet to make :(
I've been a little busy lately. I'll get to crackin soon enough!

Thank you for having Q. M. answer my questions.

What a great top ten! I, too, hate to think that summer is coming to an end. The picture of the Black Bean and Corn Salad made me want to eat it...well I'm off to the kitchen! =)

Alright. It's settled! I'm first in line to buy your cookbook....when's it being published :P!!! (If you already have one, please send me the name!)

I am always so inspired when I read your posts. I can tell everything on your blog is made with a lot of passion and love!

I'm so glad the Summer's almost over :D, by the way! I can't wait for Fall!

The only problem here is I don't know which recipe I want to make first. Because they all look wonderfully delicious, and I know that they will be, so hmmmm, where does a girl start? Maybe, we could have a buffet with all these items? I will help prepare!

Catherine said...

Oh how I wish I had seen this post yesterday! We went to a berry patch and picked raspberries and then came home and used them all up on jam! (That's actually a very good prudence pennywise tip - berries are cheaper if you go and pick your own!) Now who can eat jam after seeing that delicious raspberry ice cream? Oh well. All of these recipes look delicious and I can't wait to try the ones that I missed.

Aggie said...

What a great top 10! They all look great. I'm eyeing that flat bread...mmmm.

Amy said...

Wow, Prudy!!! I love your recipe ideas... I think I am going to make the Corn and Black Bean Salad and the Summer Squash Gratin for dinner tomorrow nite! Yummy!

Girl Japan said...

Light, summery, nice top 10! I wanted to ask the bread to the left of the plate- is that genmai (brown rice bread or rye)?

Prudy said...

Girl Japan:
Welcome! And to answer your question, it is whole wheat. Thanks for stopping here.

Natashya said...

You are the master, my friend. (mistress?)
What a great array of delightful dinners and dessert!
And, seriously? You were on RR?
Is it on youtube?

Prudy said...

Natashya, No, thank goodness.:)

Girl Japan said...

Oh my, it sure looks delish. I remember I had "genmai bread" (brown rice) and it had walnuts, etc.. great combo- I'm always excited to see what you post next = )

Ive really got to make those turkey burgers - on next weeks shopping list!!

I am loving all of your top ten! You have the great skill of making me famished first thing in the morning! I want that corn chowder, not cereal!!!

I'm really impressed with how creamy that first ice cream came out without an ice cream maker. I'm going to have to try making it like that.

The flat bread looks especially good.-Lorie

They all look like winner to me! So many to choose from... so little time! Good thing for me summer is just starting.

All of these look delicious-It's still summer here in the southeast, too. May drop to 85 tomorrow though!

Your food is making me hungry! I don't know hat is going on with the weather. It was 92 here yesterday too!

Cathy said...

Oh, no fair making me this hungry when it is only 9:20 a.m.!! I am going to work my way through the list -- starting with the salsa verde turkey burgers. Maybe I'll serve them with your cajun fries and have an "international night."

Grace said...

i'm a pretty picker eater, so rarely have i ever craved each of a blogger's top 10 dishes, but every single one of your selections tickles my fancy. :)

Proud Italian Cook said...

I still need to make that corn chowder of yours, it's calling my name! Fantastic top ten!!

Sara said...

I'm lovin' your top 10 Prudy!!! I have forgotten about a few of these dishes that I said I wanted to make. Now is my chance! I'm going to do the veggie fajitas tonight, and the August Corn chowder some time this week. Our harvest has been so late this year. Up north where I live our corn is just barely coming on.

Amy said...

These all looks SO yummy!! I have made your August Corn Chowder, it was delicious!! I really want to try the raspberry ice cream and sorbet...it's on my list:)

Ali said...

Great choices! I made your homemade hamburger buns last night! It made our burgers so yummy! Thanks!

Thanks for posting on my blog! You are so nice. I figured you lived near me!

I am SO jealous that you get to go to Europe with your family. I assume it is without your spouses and kids? How fun!

The Blonde Duck said...

Holy crap. I've got to eat all those burgers right now. They look soooooooo good.

And it doesn't get fall here until January. I've got time!

Miss Pickles up today! :)

Janna said...

YUM YUM YUM!
I can't pick just one. Everything looks good! I just ate lunch, so maybe a dessert. That strawberry ice cream looks tasty.

1freshstart said...

Hmm... I'm beginning to think I have a problem. Do you know of any Prudy Rehab programs? I just went through your list and I've made SIX of the top ten! I can see it now. "Hi. I'm Cat. I have a Prudy Problem."

Esi said...

Oh my god, that ice cream looks so good and even better that you don't need a machine since I don't have one. Can't wait for strawberries next year!

Bridgett said...

Beautiful, Prudy. I keep going back and eyeballing he corn chowder, wishing my family loved it as much as I do. It is hard to believe how summer is nearly over. Didn't it seem to fly by? I am looking forward to fall though and am excited to see what fall dishes you create.

Mary said...

I love your list. The only one I've tried is your burger and it really is outstanding. The others are on my 'must-try' list.

Carmen said...

yum, i am loving these recipes of yours - i'll have to try some of these out before summer ends!

CECIL said...

What a feast for the eyes! I suddenly feel like having a burger! Yum!

Lisa magicsprinkles said...

What I great idea. I love your top 10 list! These are all jostling for position in my "to make" list. Rachel Ray?? Did you get video of your TV appearance?? I'd love to see it if it's out there somewhere.

Pam said...

They all look so good. The ice cream is calling my name but so is the corn chowder, hamburger and sqaush gratin. I am so hungry now!

Katie & Mark said...

Aunt Prudy! : ) Those all look amazing! I really want to try to make the burger, the ice cream, and flatbread. I did TRY to make the Cajon grilled Chicken and veggies-I know they are pretty "fool proof," but I must be some kinda' fool because I think I used too much oil. My delicious brown sugar kinda' melted off onto my cookie sheet! I LOVED the potential taste it had though! : ) I will let you know how my next "Prudy Dish" turns put! Thanks

The Renouf Family said...

I have made the zuchini dish about seven times now. It is so delicious and easy. It is a my new weekly addition to baked potato night (I confess it is a sad regular at our house). Thanks for all the inspiration.
The burger is also sooo good and the black bean/corn salad is an all time favorite. I can't wait to try the others soon.
THANK YOU!
May Hugs and Kisses fall down upon you from the kitchen gods. :)

Prudy said...

Katie:
Since you used your oven, I bet it just didn't get hot enough for everything to carmelize on the surface. Darn! Next time you're here we'll grill it.

Kristen said...

That corn chowder is on my list of must makes. Everything on your list looks fantastic!

Michelle said...

I made the salad & the ice cream both yesterday (along with your granola too!) and all three are incredible!
